1st Clinical Study Tests the Effectiveness of Botox(R) In Reducing Wrinkles on the Chin
Tuesday February 4, 7:31 am ET

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Feb. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Kenneth Beer, a board-certified cosmetic dermatologist, is conducting the country's first clinical trial to test the effectiveness of Botox® to smooth deep wrinkles and lines on the chin. This is the first clinical study to test the safety, effectiveness, and durability of Botox injections into the chin area.

According to Beer, this area of the face -- which he has dubbed the "scrotal chin" -- is a common complaint among men and women who experience unsightly wrinkles that make them look aged and "angry." The study will involve 20 women (between the ages of 18-75 years of age) in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

"Botox is regarded by many as the ultimate fountain of youth," says Dr. Beer. "Botox injections are the fastest-growing cosmetic procedure and so popular because it is non-invasive and simple procedure that can dramatically reduce deep frown lines. If the clinical study proves successful in diminishing deep frown lines in the chin area, this opens up the whole lower half of the face for treatment and is a significant new opportunity for Botox treatment."

Beer states that one current limitation on patient satisfaction is the discomfort associated with the injection. He began using a smaller needle about two years ago and calls his technique "Botox Microinjections." In addition to the comfort of the microinjection technique, the smaller needle decreases bruising caused by inadvertent injury to adjacent vascular structures. The smaller needle also allows for more precise placement of the Botox. At the present time, Dr. Beer has submitted his "Botox Microinjection" technique for publication in one of the peer reviewed dermatology journals to convey the information to his peers and collaborating with several cosmetic dermatologists in Boston to conduct a clinical trial to verify his observations.
